The Yomega Maverick is an all aluminum yoyo designed for less responsive yoyo play, which makes it superior for more complicated string tricks. It has clean lines and a flared gap “wing” shape that makes it easier to catch back on the string for tricks like the Trapeze. The Maverick is laser etched to keep the surface super smooth for less friction.

The Maverick uses 6061 aluminum, an advanced type that is also widely used in aircraft on the wings and fuselage, which gives you an idea of the durability.

This is the newest version of the Yomega Maverick Yo-Yo. The new version features include a large C bearing and a silicone return system. This makes the Maverick Yoyo less responsive than the old version, with an improved spin time.

What is a C bearing? Basically, it’s a bearing that is a little bit larger than the typical Yomega bearing in yoyos like the Brain and the Raider, which is often referred to as a size or type E. The lettering system really just refers to the size of the bearing.

When you use a larger C bearing, you can get a longer spin time. However, a C bearing is also less responsive when you tug on the string to wake up the yoyo when it is sleeping. So a size C bearing makes it a bit harder for beginners and intermediate players to use, but allows advanced players to more easily do complicated string tricks where you don’t want the yoyo to wake up too easily.

Yomega uses a numbering system for their yoyos called “Yo to Pro Level,” which goes from 1 to 5. If a Yomega yoyo is numbered as 1, then it is the very easiest and simplest to use yoyo that is suitable for an absolute beginner. At the other end of the scale is a ranking of 5, which means that it requires advanced skills to be able to successfully use the yoyo. The Yomega yoyos at level 5 are typically non-responsive yoyos, which means that they do not wake up from sleeping unless you know how to perform a bind.

The Yomega Maverick is a 4.5 on the Yo to Pro Level scale. Anything listed as a 4 or 5 is considered to be Pro Level. What 4.5 means in this case is that you’re going to get a really smooth yoyo for doing string tricks that is less responsive and a little bit harder to wake up from a sleep. However, it DOES wake up from a sleep without a bind, unlike the Level 5 yoyos that won’t wake up at all unless you know how to bind.

This is a terrific yoyo for making the transition over to completely non-responsive yoyos later, because you can still do most of the same string tricks, but you don’t have to learn how to bind yet.
