The Duncan Hornet yoyo is Duncan's newest attempt at manufacturing a ball bearing yoyo that is designed to be very, very good at one aspect of yoyoing. Looping tricks. The Hornet is suitable for 2A yoyo contests -- which is a contest where you have a yoyo in both hands and complete difficult two handed yoyo looping tricks. But if you're just trying to learn how to do some basic one handed looping tricks, this would still be an awesome choice for you. Hop the Fence, Inside Loops, Outside Loops, Warp Drive and Around the World are just a few of the looping yoyo tricks that will be easier with this yoyo.
I suggest buying a pair of these, because after you master looping with your dominant hand, you are going to want to start trying out 2A (two handed) looping tricks. There's nothing more impressive to an audience than throwing down a few two handed yoyo tricks. Even the most basic two handed tricks look very hard. (For good reason!)
Duncan did some weird stuff with the Hornet. You can take the yoyo apart and take out the little metal spacers to make the yoyo gap even narrower than it already is. That narrower gap allows for even faster looping. If you want to go even further in that direction, they taped an even narrower axle on the back of the package. You can put in that narrower axle and loop even faster. We found it difficult to get the original axle out though, so I want to warn you right now that you can easily damage your yoyo if you start messing with pliers and strip the axle or bend it or otherwise mess up any of the other parts. Be careful, dude. Personally, I think it's pretty well tuned out of the box. But if you like to tinker, you will have options.
The Duncan Hornet is perfect for looping tricks and classified as a 2A yoyo. This yoyo has a standard ball bearing and a starburst response. If you are buying a yoyo, don't forget to buy a yo-yo trick book to carry with you, a yoyo trick DVD for at home, and extra yoyo strings. Learning new tricks makes yoyoing much more fun, and you'll need extra strings, because they wear out with regular use.
